LATE ACUTE SPONTANEOUS GIANT EPIDURAL HEMATOMA AFTER VENTRICULOPERITONEAL SHUNT SURGERY

چکیده
Abstract Introduction: Subdural hematoma is the most common type of hemorrhage as a shunt complication following ventriculoperitoneal procedures. This caused by rupture bridging veins between dura mater and brain due to suddenly developing decrease in intracranial pressure. On other hand, mechanism late epidural hemorrhage, shunt, could not been clarified very clearly. Case Presentation: A 7-year old female patient had operated for meningomyelocele after birth. One month later, placed. She presented emergency department with nausea, vomiting, blurred consciousness loss strength (2/5) left upper extremity 4 years revision. Glasgow Coma Scale score 10. Brain computed tomography revealed giant right hemisphere. Conclusion: should be obtained postoperative period anti-siphon device used when placing shunt. In addition, we argue that use moderate-high pressure definitely effective preventing development hemorrhage. Keywords: Hydrocephaly – Epidural VP

Acute Epidural Hematoma after Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt Insertion: a Case Report
Background & Importance: Acute epidural hematoma is a very rare complication of ventriculoperitoneal shunt insertion. The insertion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt can cause sudden decompression of the brain, subsequent to which epidural hematoma occurs due to CSF drainage. To our knowledge, there are only a few cases of acute epidural hematoma in the literature which required acute e...

متن کاملGiant acute epidural hematoma after ventriculoperitoneal shunt: a case report and literature review.
Cerebrospinal fluid over-drainage is a common complication of ventriculoperitoneal devices. In terms of haemorrhage, subdural haematomas are usually more frequent lesions than epidural hematomas, which, more rarely, may also be seen after ventricular shunt procedures and may lead to rapid neurological decline and even death unless a surgical procedure can be promptly performed. This study repor...
متن کاملChronic ossified epidural hematoma after ventriculoperitoneal shunt insertion: a case report.
Chronic calcified/ossified epidural hematoma is an uncommon complication of ventricular shunt surgery. There are only 4 cases related to valve-regulated shunt operations in the literature. It may be seen especially in young patients with chronic hydrocephalus, probably due to craniocerebral disproportion. The precise mechanism of the calcification or ossification of the hematoma is not known, h...
